Minor injuries treatment

-

CHILDREN over the age of five years can now be treated at the Dundalk Minor Injuries Unit at the Louth County Hospital.

Welcoming the news, Fine Gael TD, Deputy Peter Fitzpatrick said: ‘ This is a stepping stone in the right direction for the Louth Hospital. I have been working directly with Minister Harris for the last two years on this issue.’

Sinn Fein Cllr Anne Campbell also welcomed the announcement, saying ‘After all that waiting and postponement of promises on a number of occasions, the Minor Injuries Unit will finally accept minors for treatment. It is a far cry from full services being restored to our hospital but it is a good start.”

Councillor Campbell also pointed out that ‘ this will alleviate the pressure on Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda as well as the pressure on families with children who up until now, had to drive past a Minor Injuries Unit to get to an overstretched unit in Drogheda.’

The unit at the Louth County Council is open from 9am to 8pm, seven days a week.

Children over the age of five can now attend with a similar range of injuries as adults. This includes: suspected broken bones to legs from knee to toes; broken arms, etc.
