Gardai investige Saturday’s ‘suspicious’ fire at Marian Pk home
GARDAI are treating as suspicious a fire which damaged a house in Marian Park, Drogheda in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A neighbour alerted gardai to the small blaze at around 2.15am, and it was extinguished a short time later by gardai.
Drogheda Fire & Rescue Service also attended to secure the premises.
It is understood a brick was thrown through a front window, and it is unclear whether anyone was in the house at the time.
A witness reports seeing a car speed from the area at the time, and the fire is being treated as having been started deliberately.
“We won’t know anything for certain until the results of the technical examination are released, however at the moment we feel it was deliberate, and it is being investigated as such,” said a garda spokesman.
“It was a neighbour who rang it in – and a brick was thrown a window, but gardai put out the fire quite quickly, and the fire brigade attended as a precaution.”
No arrests have been made, and gardai are appealing for more witnesses to the incident to contact them in strictest confidence.
