Seven in the hat to contest FG general election convention
THE hunt is on for a spot on the Fine Gael ticket for the next General Election.
Up to seven candidates are expected to contest the selection convention, taking place on Thursday 27th September in the Crown Plaza Hotel, Dundalk.
Laytown-Bettystown based Meath Councillor, Sharon Tolan, is one who hopes to be selected.
“I think it’s important that the party go for a 3 candidate strategy in the next General Election, whenever that may be,” said Tolan. “With the growing population in East Meath, an East Meath candidate shouldn’t be underestimated or discounted. I’m honoured to have been nominated, and to have represented Fine Gael for the past 5 years. I would like to do that on a national level now. There is such a high standard of excellent candidates, and the party should be proud to have so many talented Councillors who are eager to progress to the next level in politics.”
The likes of Mid Louth pair, Colm Markey and Dolores Minogue are also seeking the nomination with sitting TD, Fergus O’Dowd.
