If so, the then the Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall, may be able to help.
Staff from the Office of the Ombudsman will be in Drogheda on Thursday
27 September to take complaints and offer advice to the public if you have a problem with a public service. The
Ombudsman is the State’s independent office which has the powers to investigate complaints from the public about most providers of public services including:
•Government departments
•Local authorities such as county councils
•the HSE
•Public hospitals
•Third level education bodies
•Nursing homes
Ombudsman Peter Tyndall said: “Most people’s dealings with public services go well. However when things go wrong, and the service provider fails to address the problem, then my Office will put it right for people”.
Staff from the Ombudsman’s office will be available in the D Hotel, Drogheda from 10 am to 7pm on Thursday 27 September.
Before the Ombudsman can examine a complaint you must have tried to resolve the problem with the public service provider. The Ombudsman’s Office also points out that it cannot deal with complaints about banks, telecommunications or An Garda Siochána. Check the Ombudsman’s website www.ombudsman. ie for more information.
The Ombudsman received 61 complaints from people in Louth in 2017. The Ombudsman will also be meeting with Louth County Council, Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, Drogheda and Mosney direct provision centre to discuss complaint handling and how public services can learn from complaints they receive.
