Jim Dorey was a man of the people who loved his family

JIM Dorey of Platin Rd, Duleek, Co. Meath died peacefully on Tuesday 4th of September in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital at the age of 88 years. Born in 1930 to parents Patrick and Margaret Dorey Knockislan­d Duleek, Co. Meath Jim was the youngest of three boys.

Jim was married in 1963 to Joan Clarke of Balgathern, Tullyallen Co. Louth. Jim and Joan had three children Fiona, Niamh and Cianan and have five grandchild­ren, Grace, Maggie, Clare, Laura and Adam. Jim loved his wife, family and grandchild­ren and was due to celebrate his 55th wedding anniversar­y with Joan on the 9th of September 2018.

Jim served his time as a butcher in his uncle Willie Walls shop at the Bullring Drogheda. His career spanned fifty years and he worked locally in Dunleer and the Drogheda area all of his life.

Jim had a keen interest in Gaelic football and played this sport from an early age. He was a passionate supporter of the local Duleek Gaelic Football Club and in later life proudly accepted the title and role of Honorary President. In 1955 Jim played with the winning team which went on to become Intermedia­te Champions. On September 10th 2006 Jim was presented with a Coiste na Mi award for dedicated service to Cumann Luthcleas Gael.

Jim was an enthusiast­ic Meath Team supporter all of his life and relished attending all Meath matches especially the Meath games in Croke Park.

Jim was a staunch member of the Pioneer Associatio­n and went on to receive his Golden Pioneer pin.

Jim enjoyed gardening and he had a creative side which was demonstrat­ed in the stone walls he built by hand around his home and the many wooden and stone garden features he made.

Ultimately Jim was a man of the people, he loved his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand if and when he could.
