Ack to reach under-16 showdown

-

side staring down the barrel of their first defeat all season. But, when the need was greatest, this team responded. First, Tommy McCarragher scored a wonder goal in the top corner and then six points on the trot from Ronan McBride, Tommy McCarragher and a brace each from Enda O’Neill and Pearse Hulme brought the sides level in what was turning into a pulsating game.

O’Raghallaighs responded with an opportunist goal past the excellent Finn O’Hanlon but immediately Callum O’Hanlon struck back with an equalising goal and followed that up with another superb three pointer to push the Cooley side ahead in the game for the first time. With Michael John Hanlon and Ronan McBride now dominating down the centre and Ian Arnold on top out wide the peninsula side shut the game down very professionally, reducing the Drogheda side to a single point in the last 20 minutes. The bench made a huge contribution with Eunan Mullen excellent at full forward and Gerard Hanlon bagging a point in the closing minutes. A final insurance point from Callum O’Hanlon brought the game to a finish on a score of 3-12 to 2-11. This superb victory means this young side now have a great chance on October 14th to bring a county championship back to the Cooley peninsula.
