NEWTOWN BLUES

WELL done to our U-16 boys who now progress to the B Championship Final following a great win over Naomh Fionnbarra/Lannliere. There were great scores from both teams on a windy night, but the Blues started strong and stayed ahead to leave the opposition chasing the game. We play Wolfe Tones in the final this Friday at 8.30pm in Darver.

Hard luck to our senior ladies who went out of the championship against Geraldines 3-14 to 0-6. Congratulations to the Geraldines on reaching the final.

Well done to our U-12 girls who took on Geraldines on Thursday night at home in their last group game of the championship.

A win would have secured them a place in the semi-final, but unluckily our girls finished short by two points at the final whistle - 0-9 to 1-4. Still, they walked off with their heads held high as they emptied the tank for the four quarters. They finished tied in second place in their group and missed out on a semi-final spot on points difference, a similar position to our U-16 girls.

Hard luck ladies. Your parents, mentors and fellow club members are delighted with your efforts - real team spirit and sportsmanship at all times.

All wasn’t lost as we played in an U-12 Patsy Thornton Memorial Cup semi-final on Saturday in the Blues where we faced neighbours St Fechin’s. In the other semi-final, also in the Blues, Geraldines took on Wolfe Tones. The final will be played next week between St Fechin’s and Wolfe Tones.

Well done to all involved in what was a great morning, thanks to all who helped in any way and also a huge thanks to the Thornton family. It was a great way to remember Patsy.
