Harps still on course after victory stroll

THE Premier Division title race looks increasing­ly like a two-horse race after Boyne Harps maintained their 100% record with a straightfo­rward win over struggling Duleek at United Park last Wednesday.

With both teams going into this game with 100% records - albeit at different ends of the table - this had all the hallmarks of being a home banker, but Duleek defied the odds initially with a good display in the first half.

That said, Harps blew early chances when Graham Reynolds twice blazed over the bar from 12 yards, and Duleek keeper Alan Sweeney then denied Luke McDonnell with superb tip-over save from a header, the defender having connected with a Martin Kelly corner kick.

Manny Smith also went close from a corner and yet another corner looked to be going directly into the net until Harps’ Nathan Seery inadverten­tly ‘saved’ it with his head as he stood near the goal-line!

The wheels eventually came off Duleek’s challenge in the second period as they shipped two soft goals, the first of those in the 51st minute when a Reynolds free kick was volleyed home at the back post by Smith.
