McGroggan hat-trick joy for Duleek

-

ADAMSTOWN DULEEK 2 4

PREMIER Division strugglers Duleek gave themselves a much-needed confidence boost when proving too strong for Wexford hosts Adamstown on Sunday afternoon.

Pete Brennan’s team made the long trip south with no fit substitutes and hadn’t time for a proper warm-up, but they still hit the front in the very first minute as Gareth Toal’s pass released Jordan Duffy who lobbed the advancing keeper.

Cormac McGroggan then made it 2-0 with a simple tap-in on eight minutes after Duffy had hit the post with a superb shot, and McGroggan doubled his personal tally to leave Duleek with one foot in the next round of the provincial competition.

Right on half-time, though, Adamstown pulled a one back from the penalty spot and immediately after the interval they made it 3-2 when a free kick beat keeper Alan Sweeney.

For a short time it seemed that the more physical Adamstown side might go on to equalise, but Duleek survived that mini onslaught and went on to miss several good chances - including a McGroggan penalty - before the culprit did complete his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining to make it 4-2.
