Sheeran scoops gold
TENURE youngster Lily Sheeran is celebrating another big success after scooping a coveted gold medal at the biggest karate event in Ireland last Saturday.
In all, there were 569 entries from 10 nations - Ireland, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Morocco, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Switzereland - for the Irish International Open Championships at the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown.
Eleven-year-old Lily dropped only one point in four fights en route to winning the Kumite title in her category. She won her first two fights 7-0 and 8-0 and then took her semi-final bout 4-1 before storming to a 6-0 success in the deciding contest.
Lily, who fights out of IKKU in Navan, travels to Germany next weekend to represent her country and club at the Banzi International Open.
