Mickey Reilly signs up for the Drogs

-

FORMER Distillery centre half Mickey Reilly made his Drogheda United debut on Sunday, coming on for the final four minutes of the friendly clash with Tottenham and reverting to the position which made him such an influencial part of Mickey Burke’s Boyne Rovers last season.

Having helped the Parkview side to promotion, Reilly commenced training with Drogheda just a couple of weeks ago and will be pushing for his place in the coming months. Indeed his experience under Billy Hamilton at the ‘Whites’ along with a season alongside Frank Flanagan at Rovers makes Reilly a very valued plaver and one who will blossom in the future.

His baptism of fire, marking the £2m rated England forward Teddy Sheringham, will hopefully be the first of quite a few appearences in the Drogheda colours as he vies with John Carroll for the central position alongside the ever reliable Paul McLaughlin.

Coach Noel White revaled that Reilly like the other players on the fringe will be contesting for their spot, making it a tough season for the management team.

‘Competition for places keeps a club healthy and nobody is guaranteed their position every week and it’s up to everyone to fight for their spot,’ Noel remarked.

Tottenham won the game 3-1 with Mick Kinsella scoring for United.
