VOLUNTEER GROUPS HONOURED AT THE PPN AWARDS NIGHT
THE PPN Louth Volunteer Awards in Castlebellingham last week saw the 2018 Fleadh team collect two well merited awards following the success of the week long event in August.
Lolo Robinson was honoured with an individual award and she was over the moon with the honour and the success of the event.
‘Drogheda came together and the volunteers were fantastic,’ she told the Drogheda Independent.
She admitted there were many highlights, but one stuck with her.
‘I was walking up from the Dome one night and I was stopped by a girl of about 18 or 19 and she said ‘ thanks for bringing
the Fleadh to the town’.
Lolo says there was a lot more than her involved, but she appreciated the gesture. ‘It was nice that young people in particular appreciated it.’
She says that some preparations have begun already for the 2019 event and it will kick off in the coming weeks.
The big help is that this year went so well, so they have a template to work on.
Lolo was honoured for her tireless efforts for many years to foster and nurture a traditional culture in County Louth in her role as chair of Drogheda Comhaltas.
As a dance teacher, she had brought hundreds of dancers to winning ways, but it has been over the last six years that she has developed the mission to get the Fleadh to Drogheda, ultimately achieved
this year.
The fact that it was heralded as one of the best Fleadhs of all time only added to it.
The Fleadh Cheoil Volunteers also accepted a special award with host for the evening, Grainne Berrill, saying it was an honour to be part of the event.
Heading of the Louth Volunteering Centre, she said the week was ‘ the most inspiring experience of her life’ - and would always be - until next year!
‘ The volunteers were great, from scanning tickets to cleaning streets,’ she stated.
