Public meeting on local policing
THE annual public meeting of the Joint Policing Committee for Mid Louth takes place in the Grove House on Thursday night, October 4th at 8pm.
Members of the public are asked to attend and hear reports on policing issues in the area from Louth County Council and An Garda Siochana.
A discussion will take place on cyber crime and there is a question and answer forum at the end of the meeting.
Chairman of the policing group, Cllr Pearse McGeough encourages the public to attend the meeting.
‘ This is our community and we all have a say in how it is policed going forward,’ he stated. The meeting in Dunleer covers the areas of Ardee, Dunleer and Clogherhead Garda districts.
‘ There will be presentations from An Garda Siochana and the Local Authority and an interesting one on cyber crime which is on the increase and affects all of us. The public will get a chance to ask questions or to raise issues so please try and attend,’ he added.
He also welcomed the seizure of an estimated €1 million of cannabis herb at Collon and subsequent follow up searches of properties in Ardee and Slane.
‘ This is a great start. There is more work to be done but this is very significant and has taken €1 million worth of drugs off our streets. I welcome the find and want to commend those involved in the operation which was a result of a Cross-border Joint Action Force. It’s only through co-operation north and south and together with communities that we can tackle crime effectively.”
Meanwhile, Gardaí investigating the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Co Louth area have seized a large quantity of Cannabis Herb (subject to analysis).
On Thursday the 27/09/18 Gardaí carried out a planned search of a residence in Collon, during the course of this search Cannabis Herb with an estimated street value of €1million was seized.
A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with this investigation and was detained at Drogheda Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2- Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, he subsequently appeared in court.
This operation was as result of a Cross Border Joint Action Force.
Investigations are ongoing.
