Battle Royale raises €16,000 for little Odie

-

FROM The Greatest Showman to Lady Gaga, with a few Drag Queens thrown in for good measure, the recent Lip Sync Battle in aid of Odie Wants to Walk certainly provided a great night’s entertainment for all!

And not only was it fun, but managed to raise an incredible €16,000 and counting for the drive to help little Odie O’Brien to America for life-changing surgery.“The show was spectacular and I was really blown away at how well-organised it was, and how brilliant everyone was on stage,” says Odie’s dad David. “And everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves too”

Overall winners were Killian Shevlin and Lisa McGuinness, with a special mention for Gary Fagan, and David’s mum and sister also took to the stage on the night, and he said he couldn’t believe how good they were! “I had seen them rehearse, but they were brilliant, as was everyone who took part,” he adds.

“It was a bit late for Odie to come on the night, so she also attended the dress rehearsal, and her favourites were definitely the Drag Queens, she said they were awesome!”

The event which was held on September 21st and is just one of several being held in David and Joan O’Brien’s bid to raise €100,000. Odie is four and a condition called spastic diplegic cerebral palsy means she can’t stand unsupported or walk without the aid of her walker.

“This money will go a long way to helping us reach our target, and we are so grateful to everyone who helped organise it and took part,” adds David. “I also want to mention a very special girl called Ciara Brady, who with the support of her mum Alison, cut off her beautiful long hair to raise funds and donate money to the Princess Trust. It all means so much to us and Odie.”

There are many more events, including Afternoon Tea in Glebe House on October 14th at 2pm, and details of all are on Odie Wants to Walk facebook page.
