Duleek and District celebrates 5th birthday

-

FREE community publication Duleek and District News has just celebrated its 5th birthday.

‘ This has been an amazing journey,’ said instigator, Independent Councillor Sharon Keogan,.

On the D&D team is Caroline Dunne, Alanna Andrew, Zygimantas Urbietis, Shannon Gough, Caroline Kavanagh, and Sharon herself.

Originally a Dub, Caroline Dunne and her 3 children are truly part of the Duleek community now. ‘ They all play soccer and Gaelic football here and love Meath.’

Alanna Andrews adds, ‘We ran Teen Revival here over the summer where between 20-30 teenagers came here every day and took on to clean the village, picking up litter and generally looking after the upkeep,’ she continued. ‘We fed them at lunchtime and it was a lively bunch here every day! We then took them on a ‘ thank you’ trip to Carlingford Adventure Centre at the end of the summer. They were really brilliant!’

A coffee morning took place in the office during the summer to raise funds for this day out – and Zygi baked dozens of bakery-quality buns for it! ‘I enjoy baking and these were no problem,’ he modestly admitted. Zygi’s other hobby is fencing! As DKIT fencing team captain for the past 3 years, he has won a number of championships! ‘I have competed all over Ireland.’

Alanna, new mother to baby Anna, is involved in the Senior Citizens’ group. She helps Paddy Cudden and Paddy McConnon to organise and run their regular fundraisers such as walks, auctions and head/beard shaves to fund the summer and winter senior citizens’ outings.
