East Meath pair’s cup dreams are extinguished

-

BOTH St Patrick’s and St Colmcille’s bowed out of the Feis Cup following losses to Gaeil Colmcille and Wolfe Tones respectively.

The Stamullen men went down 1-14 to 2-8 in Duleek on Friday evening, with Brian Hanlon scoring 1-7 for the Kells men. St Patrick’s led by three points on two separate occasions in the opening half before a late burst from the eventual winners had them ahead 1-8 to 1-4 at the break.

Gaeil Colmcille went six points clear early in the second half before a goal and two points brought St Patrick’s to within two points in the closing minutes.

St Colmcille’s lost out narrowly to Wolfe Tones in Ashbourne, 2-6 to 1-11. Both Cille’s goals arrived in the early stages as they built up a 2-3 to 0-2 lead.

With 10 minutes left Cille’s were still ahead and it took a fortuitous goal from Fiachra Ward to get the Tones back into it. Cian Ward ended top scorer for the winners with six points.

Early goals from Conor O’Brien and Ronan McCabe set Skryne on their way to victory over an understrength O’Mahony’s, winning 3-8 to 1-3 in Simonstown. Jamie Power pulled a goal back for O’Mahony’s, but at half-time it was Skryne who led 2-6 to 1-3.

A second goal from O’Brien and two points from Darragh Campion were the only scores of the second half as Skryne comfortably advanced.

In the Corn na Boinne Ballinabrackey overcame Walterstown 1-16 to 1-9.
