IN MEMORY

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of John (Johnny) Andrews, Fourknocks Stamullen, who recently passed away. Following funeral mass at St. John the Baptist Church in Clonalvy, Mr Andrews was laid to rest in Clonalvy Cemetery.

MOORECHURCH CEMETERY.

Meath Co Council has announced that they have removed the rubbish bins from the old graveyard due to some individuals using the rubbish bins to dispose of their household waste.

The purpose of the bins was for those cleaning and tidying their family grave-plots at the cemetery and who could avail of the bins to dispose of dried and dead flowers, small plastic wrapping, old flower reeds etc.

However, the bins are also being constantly used to get rid of domestic waste which is being brought to the cemetery and then dumped in the bins; and often this rubbish has been placed alongside the bins.

Under the cover of `supposedly` visiting the cemetery, it is an easy ploy to then dispose of rubbish without raising any suspicion to passing motorists or indeed other visitors to the cemetery. The Council have said that will monitor the situation at the cemetery with a view of reinstalling the bins in the future!

DARKER DAYS.

Now that we have passed the autumn equinox, the daylight hours will become less and less from now until the winter solstice on and after December 21st. The winter is upon us and once the clock goes back by 1 hour in a few weeks time, the days will begin to feel colder and darker. It is proposed that from 2019, countries throughout Europe will remain with that of summer time, which in turn will make it even darker in the mornings, particularly during the months of December and January; however it will remain brighter in the evening time as a result.

MAKE-WAY-DAY.

Wednesday, September 26th last, was National `MakeWay-Day`, which was a Governmentinitiative to encourage people to remove obstacles and/or obstructions from footpaths which would make it a lot easier for people with disabilities to get around.

Despite numerous calls for motorists to stop parking on footpaths in Stamullen village over the past couple of years now, Wednesday September 26th last was no different.

At several times throughout the day, vehicles could be seen parked up blocking footpaths in the centre of the village opposite the local supermarket and also at the bottom or north-east end of the village at Alderwood outside the shops there and on the opposite side of the road from the old graveyard wall and the memorial stone to the late Sergeant Patrick Mooney.

Vehicles are regularly parked up on the footpath at this location for long periods throughout the day. The `Make-way-day` was also backed by Meath Co Council; however, it might be an idea if the Local Authority were to notify the Gardai to have such vehicles removed or a parking fine slapped on their windscreens in order to deter this from continuing!
