ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING POSTPONED

The Annual General Meeting of Broomfield and District Residents Association will now take place on Thursday 18th October at 8.00 pm in Teach Raithneach, and not as previously advertised. All Residents are cordially invited to attend.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION NETWORK (PPN)

The Laytown/Bettystown Municipal District PPN held a meeting in the Village Hotel, Bettystown on last Tuesday night, 25th September. The meeting was well attended, with all in attendance having ample opportunity to air their views. The Broomfield & District Residents Association representative spoke on the issues of Insurance, the expectations and impositions placed on Community Volunteers, and the ever increasing workload placed on Volunteers through what many consider to be over governance and over regulation. Community Volunteers carry out vital work, and provide many essential services to their Community Members across all age groups. They are the unsung, unpaid heroes in society, who it seems, are expected to dance to the tune of those who get paid to do what they are employed to do. Volunteers need to make their views known, if their efforts, dedication, and commitment are to be understood and appreciated. Volunteers, take control of your destiny!

TIDY TOWNS

Slane continues to thrive in the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition and this year received 314 marks, an increase of three from 2017. This represents a remarkable achievement considering that last years marks were up by six on the 2016 results.

The village improved their marks in community planning and involvement, green spaces and landscaping, nature and biodiversity in the locality, and residential streets and housing areas. However they dropped a mark in tidiness and litter control. The judges were full of praise for the streetscape which they said was fresh and full of character. They were also impressed with the Francis Ledwidge mural and sculpture as well as the village garden and the floral displays throughout the village. Residential areas also came in for positive comments for being litter free and having attractive landscaping. Full done to all on the tidy towns committee for the endeavors in having Slane looking so well all the year round.
