€80,000 boost to repair roof of Collon church
A NUMBER of local areas are to benefit from the allocation of funds from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, which has handed out over €21m to communities in 2018.
The Scheme focuses on projects which can help to enhance rural towns and villages, with a particular emphasis on stimulating economic development.
One of the biggest winners was Collon Church of Ireland which is to receive €80,000 to re-slate the roof.
The roof has been in a bad state of repair for some time and there are fears that the historic ceiling of the building will collapse unless works are carried out.
‘It’s great news for the people who are working so hard to save the church,’ local councillor Dolores Minogue stated. She put them forward for funding for the project and is delighted with the outcome.
There was also good news for Donore with €77,600 secured to fit out the community centre. Local councillor Paddy Meade said the funding was richly deserved as the community had come together to provide an invaluable addition for people of all ages for the future.
Cllr Stephen McKee also expressed his delight with the news. ‘I am delighted to have helped St.Mary’s GFC secure their place as one of 12 applications from County Meath that went forward for funding. I would like to play tribute to the tremendous work being done at the Club.’
Success also for Annagassan, securing €100,000, Baltray €42,400 for a viewing platform on the promenade, Fieldstown/Monasterboice, €60,000 for two sculptures, Grangebellew, €76,000 for village enhancement, Termonfeckin, €100,000 for the village, with Nobber awarded €88,000 for a town walkway.
