€100,000 will help transform beautiful beach at Seapoint

The beautiful stretch of strand at Seapoint beach is one step closer to the goal of achieving Green Flag status this week, after €100,000 was allocated for village enhancements.

Local Cllr Oliver Tully said the long-awaited clean-up of the foreshore can now take place, something the locals and visitors had been waiting a long time for.

“The plan with this funding is to enhance the Seapoint beach area, and whilst we can’t go for a Blue Flag award, we can aim for Green,” he explains.

“The water quality here has never failed to be anything other than excellent, so we can’t wait to get stuck into the work.”

The funding is part of an allocation of €892,000 for 12 Louth projects, which it’s hoped will help boost tourism and revitalise local communities.

It comes in under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and is used to increase the attractiveness of local towns and village as a local commercial and social centre, and increase its sustainability as a place in which to live and work.

“There were toilets at Seapoint about 15 years ago, and until they are replaced we can’t achieve a Blue Flag, but a major clean-up had to be postponed until we got this funding and now we are delighted we can finally get started again,” he adds.

“€42,000 has also been earmarked for Baltray, and it’s hoped work can start soon on a plan to install a viewing platform on the promenade, to get a better view of some of the natural wildlife.”
