NAVAN O’MAHONY’S SENESCHALSTOWN 1-16 0-13

NAVAN O’MAHONY’S finished stronger to take the honours in the B Football League Division 2 decider in Castletown on Friday.

There was little to choose between the sides for most of the hour, but it was the town side who made certain of victory in the closing stages with a scoring burst that yielded 1-2.

O’Mahony’s were ahead by three points in the early stages before having to settle for a 0-5 to 0-4 lead at half-time.

Eoin Finnegan (two), Edward Meade and Alan Mulvany were the Seneschalstown scorers in the opening half.

Two points from half-time substitute James Conlon had Seneschalstown ahead shortly after the restart. The sides were level on three occasions in that third quarter before Finnegan’s fourth point left Seneschalstown ahead entering the final quarter.

Four successive points gave O’Mahony’s the edge, though, and while Finnegan and Jonathan Gilsenan replied with points for the Yellow Furze outfit they were unable to gain parity at any stage after that.

The late goal put the issue beyond doubt, though the winners were somewhat flattered by their six-point margin of victory. SENESCHALSTOWN: Keith Waters; Ronan Conneely, Dylan Doyle, Fionn Gallaghar Hall; Neil Darby, Kevin Casey, Colin Gleeson; Gerard McKendry, Robert Ruddy; Brendan Lynch, Alan Mulvany 0-1, Sean Carey; Dylan Keating 0-2, Edward Meade 0-1, Eoin Finnegan 0-5. Subs: Ryan O’Dowd for Carey, James Conlon 0-2 for Meade, Johathan Gilsenan 0-2 for Lynch, Adam O’Mara for Finnegan, Damien Sheridan for Ruddy, Darragh Keogh for Doyle.
