Three is the magic number as Dunleer club strike gold

DUNLEER AC have three newly-crowned Louth Cross-Country champions after the completion of the first round in bright and breezy conditions at Darver GAA Centre of Excellence.

The gold medallists on the day were Conor Brennan (U-10), Erinn Leavy (U-14) and Neasa Reilly (U-16) and Dunleer athletes also featured strongly in the minor individual placings, with Leah Rooney second Under-10, Cormac Greene third Under-10, Rebecca Baldwin third Under-14, Edward Mc Entee second Under-16, Danny O’Brien third Under-18 and Pat Fitzpatric­k third of the Novice Men.

Darragh Rooney led from ‘gun’ to tape to achieve a brilliant win in the Boys Under-8 non-championsh­ip race, leading home his teammates Lochlann Welsh and Conor Gormley.

Dearbhla Leavy was an impressive silver medallist in the girls equivalent, leading home her fast-running teammates Sadhbh Greene and Leah Townsend.

The Boys Under-10 group were convincing winners of the team title at their age, with Conor Brennan, Cormac Greene, Evan Costello, Christian Farrell, Deckan Mc Entee, Max Lavery and Oliver Ginty all running very well.

The Girls Under-12 team - Sally Sheridan, Cliodhna Reilly, Danielle Brennan, Erin Mc Ginn and Caoimhe Staunton - finished second in their event.

Third place was secured by the Boys Under-14s - Matthew Mc Entee, Ciarán Russell and Oisín Cheshire, while it was first place for the Boys Under-16s thanks to the efforts of Edward Mc Entee, Seán Connaughto­n and Patrick Farrell.

In second place in the Under-18 team competitio­n were Dunleer’s Danny O’Brien, Peter Meegan and Fran Whelan.

The Novice men were pipped by a point and finished second, with Pat Fitzpatric­k, Anthony Connolly, Paddy Mahoney, Patrick Connolly, Aonghus Rooney, Donal Mc Entee, Mark Carroll, Richard Califf, Shane Lavery and Joe Killeen all running well for them.

The Novice ladies - led home by Denise Mc Ginn and also featuring Jessica Jackson, Helen Mc Entee and Grace Foley - ran very well too - and others to show great form were Cliodhna Reilly, Aisling Gormley, Dáire Mathews, Sam O Neill and Jack Greene.
