Bridge congress proves a success

-

UP on 800 people attended the annual Bridge Congress held in Drogheda at the weekend.

Addressing those in attendance, Mayor Frank Godfrey said it was a wonderful occasion for the town.

‘It is known all over Ireland as ‘ The Friendly Congress’ And we all know why that is – because we are all very friendly here in Drogheda! And the attendance at the congress is proof that this is true,’ he stated.

‘ The bridge players here this weekend come from the four corners of Ireland –and even beyond. For some it is a first visit, but many of you are returning year after year. You are all most welcome.

Bridge is a growing past-time – or sport as it is now referred to – and the standard is rising. Drogheda is proud to have a number of Master Players in town. Another thing we can be proud of is our new Bridge Centre on the Fair Green. ABCD – Associated Bridge Clubs of Drogheda. The various clubs have come together and formed a united body, and built a fantastic state-of-the-art clubhouse where I was honoured to attend the official opening just a week ago.’
