TIDY TOWNS DRAW

The Slane Tidy Towns draw for September was held in the Boyles pub and the winners were - €100 Annie Loughran, €60 Ann Mongey, €50 Rosemary Yore, €40 Lily Maguire, €30 Sean Vaughey. The next draw takes place on Friday October 26th in Lynch’s Bar. To join the draw contact John at 087 2644603.

FASHION SHOW

Funky Fashion Frolics duo Paul Carroll and Mike McCarthy are hosting their very own fashion show in Tankardsto­wn House, this evening Tuesday October 9, for what promises to be a night of glamour and glitz at this popular venue. The Excellence in Style Fashion Show features internatio­nal design collection­s from Philip Treacy, Jen Kelly, Umit Kutluk and more in addition to collection­s from local boutiques. Collection­s will be modelled by Ireland’s top profession­al models from Assets Modelling Agency. There will be a charity raffle on the night with proceeds going to children’s cancer charity Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.

FIRST AID COURSE

The Slane Branch of the Irish Red Cross are running a Practical First Aid Course in the village and it starts this evening Tuesday. Registrati­on commences at 7.30pm and the course is for a duration of six weeks. Further details from Hazel at 087 2630182 or Maria 041 9824435.

IRISH DANCING CLASSES

Irish Dancing Classes take place in the parochial hall Slane, every Tuesday at 4pm. There classes are suitable for children four and upwards. Contact Lolo Robinson at 087 2491185 or call to the hall any Tuesday.

FAMILY FUN DAY

Slane Wanderer’s Soccer Club have a family fun day and club marathon relay this Saturday, October 13th, at Wheatfield Park. Events start at 1pm, and further details can be had from Dawn 085 1092112 or Craig 085 8474904.

BLOOD DONATION

The next blood donation clinic in the area takes place at Teach Raithneach, Starinagh, Collon, on Tuesday, October 16th, from 4.30 to 8pm.

QUIZ NIGHT

BAGATELLE IN SLANE

There will be a concert in Slane in 2018 after all! The brilliant Bagatelle will be live at the Conyngham Arms Hotel, on Bank Holiday Sunday, October 28. It is part of their 40th anniversar­y tour and they are sure to be belting out all of their well know hits including Second Violin, Summer in Dublin and Leeson Street Lady. POINT-TO-POINT

Devenish will host the 2018 Point-to-Point and Country Fair at Dowth in conjunctio­n with the Meath Hunt and Tara Harriers. It takes place on Sunday October 28th and promises to be as much fun as you can have with your wellies on ... There will be six Point-to-Point races over three miles and fences on the card plus two exciting pony club races.

The first race is off at 12.30pm with gates open from 11am. As well as great racing there will be country fair exhibits, artisan food, free family fun and shopping village.

24-HOUR ROLLER CYCLE

Larry Clarke and Navan Road Club will hold their annual 24Hour Roller cycle event on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th December. The cycle will take place at Foley’s Arch on Watergate Street, with proceeds going to the ARC Cancer Support Centre. Since 1994 ARC has being offering holistic, emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer regardless of where they live. All of the services are provided by profession­al staff and trained volunteers, are confidenti­al and most importantl­y are free of charge. Club members have supported ARC over the past 15 years with their cycling activities that include Cycle Challenges to places like Cuba, South Africa and California. ALZHEIMERS SOCIETY DROGHEDA

There will be a concert in Ballsgrove Church on Thursday 11th October at 7.30pm.Performing will be The Garda Band, Eugene Ginty and Amy Dyer. Proceeds to the Alzheimers Society Drogheda. Tickets 15 Euro are available from Noel on 086-1045125.

DULEEK WOMENS FORUM

AT the end of September 14 ladies from the Forum traveled to Gorey for a 3 night break. During their stay they visited Kilruddery Botanic Gardens, The Seal Sanctuary, Wells House and Gardens and Kilkenny. There were 3 nights entertainm­ent and the trip was enjoyed by all. We meet every Tuesday morning in Duleek Courthouse from 10.30am to 12 noon.

DULEEK ACTIVE RETIREMENT

A great Afternoon Tea Dance held in the Parish Centre on Thursday 4th October was enjoyed by all. Afternoon Tea was served by the Active Retirement Group and there were some lovely prizes in the raffle. Everyone was up dancing and enjoying the music provided by DJ Groggy Mac which finished at 5pm. Bowls every Tuesday at 2pm in the Parish Centre.

COFFEE MORNING

Cllr Sharon Keogan will host a coffee fundraisin­g morning in aid of Duleek Meals on Wheels on Thursday 18th of October from 10am until 12 noon. All are very welcome. This is a very important community service for the elderly in our district, please support!

COMMUNITY SUPPORT GROUP

Chess will recommend on Tuesday nights in the prayer rooms from 7pm until 8pm. For ages up to 15 years. If there are any adults with chess knowledge who could spare an hour a week or even the occasional

SCHOOL CLOTHING COLLECTION.

Harestown’s St. Patrick’s NS will hold a clothing collection on the week of Monday 22nd October. Old clothes can be dropped off to the school during school hours on any day of that week or, if it suits people in the community better, they can drop the bags off when they come to vote at the Presidenti­al election on Friday, 26th October.
