Gavan and Nicola to raise the roof at Dunleer church

This October bank holiday weekend, audiences are in for a treat of a different kind.

On Friday, 26th October at 8pm, singing duo Gavan Ring (baritone) and his wife Nicola (soprano) along with pianist Aoife O’Sullivan will perform an evening of showstoppi­ng arias and duos from the world of opera and operetta. Taking place in St. Brigid’s Church. Dunleer, this concert is a charity fundraiser for Down Syndrome Ireland, Louth Meath Branch.

Don’t miss the chance to hear this stunning duo when they delight audiences with a mix of well-known and even some lesser known, but equally beautiful music. Gavan and Nicola are delighted to be supporting this concert in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland, a charity close their hearts.

Originally from Cahircivee­n in Co Kerry, Gavan Ring studied at the Schola Cantorum St Finian’s College in Mullingar before going on to read Music and Education at Dublin City University. A first-class honours Master of Music in Performanc­e graduate from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Gavan also holds the double distinctio­n of being the first opera singer and the youngest candidate to graduate from the RIAM with a Doctor of Music in Performanc­e. Gavan is also an alumnus of the National Opera Studio in London, the Glyndebour­ne Jerwood Young Artist Programme and the Opera Theatre Company Young Associate Artist Programme. Gavan is currently an Artistic Partner of the newly founded Irish National Opera.

Nicola who hails from Dundalk studied singing with the legendary Co Louth teacher, Geraldine McGee. She went on to study at the Royal Irish Academy of Music where her singing teachers included Dr Veronica Dunne and Mary Brennan. After they graduated, Gavan and Nicola worked in opera in Ireland and then moved to England. Nicola worked with Glyndebour­ne opera house in England for a couple of seasons while Gavan worked with the National Opera Studio and Glyndebour­ne, and now performs mainly in the UK but has been branching out to Europe.

Recent engagement­s for Gavan include performing major roles for Irish National Opera (Ireland’s newly formed national opera company) and this summer his debut performanc­e at the BBC Proms under Sir Simon Rattle with the prestigiou­s London Symphony Orchestra.

Today, the couple reside in Carlingfor­d where they are raising their two young daughters. Nicola enjoys balancing her new career as a mother with her love of singing and teaching. She frequently performs in concert with Gavan. The couple are always a huge hit when they perform A Night of Opera in the nearby Glyde Inn, Annagassan.
