No route for Slane bypass agreed as yet
THERE is still no decision on the proposed new route for the Slane bypass.
Cllr Tom Kelly raised the matter at the area council meeting in Duleek, adding that he also wanted to see progress in Duleek and Julianstown, who also needed bypasses.
Cathaoirleach Wayne Harding said there had been ongoing contact between the legal representatives, the Transport authority and Meath CC on the issue.
He said one of the major areas to be sorted out is traffic management and how a route would impact on traffic in a wider area.
‘ The traffic management is complicated and they are working through that, that’s why the route selection has not been made’, he stated.
But he realises the impact the wait for the bypass has had on many people.
‘People’s lives have been put on hold in terms of olanning permission on certain routes.’
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Meath County Council are reviewing the development of proposals for the provision of the bypass of Slane village, removing a significant sub-standard section of the existing N2 national primary road.
The N2 route forms part of an important long-distance transport corridor between the Greater Dublin Area, the Hub town of Monaghan, Northern Ireland and County Donegal, as well as carrying significant volumes of local traffic.
The site incorporates the passage tombs at Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth and contains many outstanding archaeological features, making the final selection one that must meet all thr required criteria.
