ANDY McDonnell admitted that Newtown Blues ‘got out of jail’ on Sunday afternoon as the champions broke Naomh Mairtin hearts with a devastatin­g comeback in Drogheda.

‘We always say that it doesn’t matter when you’re ahead as long as you are when the final whistle blows and that was true today,’ insisted the Louth star. ‘But we were poor and every man needs to look at themselves before we play the Carlow champions, because that wasn’t good enough.

‘I thought going into the match that were fully focused and ready to go and the heads were good, but they won the toss and built up a lead, which was well deserved. It was six points, but it could have been eight or nine.
