SENESCHALSTOWN ST COLMCILLE’S 4-10 2-10

FIRST-HALF goals from Eoin and Cathal Finnegan set Seneschalstown on the road to victory in the opening round of the U-21 FC at Duleek on Sunday morning.

Both goals arrived in the second quarter, with Eoin finding the net on 21 minutes before his brother repeated the feat in first-half added time. It left the Yellow Furze outfit leading 2-6 to 0-5 at the break.

Those goals were to prove crucial as St Colmcille’s threatened a revival in the third quarter.

The game was 14 minutes old before Cille’s opened their account, and by that stage Cathal Finnegan (two) and David Fox had accounted for Seneschalstown points. Alan Mulvany also hit two points in that first half.

Eoin Finnegan stretched the lead to eight points on the restart, before Cille’s enjoyed a spell of dominance during which they whittled the deficit back to the minimum. Their opening goal arrived on 35 minutes from the penalty spot.

It was Cathal Finnegan who stemmed the Cille’s revival with a goal on 47 minutes and he then added two points for good measure. Cille’s had the deficit back to three points following their second goal, but Alan Mulvany eased his side four clear when accounting for his third point of the hour.

Substitute Adam O’Mara put the game out of reach with his side’s fourth goal in the closing minutes.
