‘Dixie’ gets his chance

-

DAVID ‘Dixie’ Nugent, who came within a whisker of putting United ahead in Friday’s clash with Pat’s, will have been pleased to get a lengthy run in the first team, coming in for John Ryan, and showing why his pace has made an impact with the youths and reserves.

Dixie of course comes from a great footballing family and he will be hoping that 1996 will be a significant year for him to folow on past decades.

In 1946, his grandfather Robert ‘Dixie’ Nugent won a Leinster Senior League medal with Drogheda Utd, also claiming the Johnson Cup in the same season.

And his dad won a Leinster Senior League Division 2 medal with CIE in 1976.

Nugent is a great talent for the future and he’s sure to show his worth with the team as the season draws to a close.
