Stamullen
NEW ARRIVALS
Congratulations to the parents, guardians and extended family of Oliver McMahon, who was recently baptised in the parish.
GORMANSTON TOWNLAND SIGN
I notice that a new sign, announcing that you are now in `Gormanston`, has been erected on the Stamullen to Gormanston Road. The sign has been placed on the verge of the road a little over 100 metres to the east of the M1 motorway bridge. Gormanston is a townland within the parish of Stamullen and, as defined by the Ordnance Survey 6” maps, the townland boundary between that of Stamullen townland and Gormanston is actually situated more than half-a-kilometre to the west of the M1 motorway bridge on the Stamullen Road, with the townland boundary-line crossing the said Stamullen Road several metres to the west of the entrance to the former St. Patrick`s Gaelic Football Pitch and former Community Centre on the Stamullen to Gormanston Road.
I’m not sure who is responsible for the erection of this new sign, announcing that you are now in `Gormanston`, but as far as local history, geography and townland boundaries is concerned, this latest sign makes no sense whatsoever as to where it has been positioned as it sits in the wrong location.
Some local residents have noted and stated that it is of interest, perhaps, that the sign has been erected east of the motorway bridge which could have consequences for such things as infrastructure and development between the village area of the Stamullen Road, located west of the motorway bridge and where of course there is a sewage treatment plant and, that section of Gormanston, to the east of the bridge!
BINGO.
The Stamullen Parish Fund Raising Committee are delighted to announce that their annual Christmas Bingo in the City North Hotel will take place on Wednesday December 5th next.
STAMULLEN ROAD CLUB
The club has announced that the final cycling races of the season took place recently with the Leinster Road Races which were held in Dundalk. Once again, the local team did exceptionally well throughout the season, however it was tinged with a great deal of sadness with the sudden and tragic passing of their `boss` Gaybo Howard which took place on the eve of this particular cycling season.
Well done to Kay Howard and the extended family members and to the overall team and club for having the commitment and dedication and indeed love for continuing the Stamullen Road Club in light of what took place in early February this year. It is very hard to think about the club without the `man himself` coming to the forefront of your mind.
I also note that the club will host their annual Christmas Poker Classic on Friday November 30th next in Whytes of Stamullen with tickets now on sale and, I believe, are selling fast.
A difficult year for Kay Howard and family and for the club and sponsors and supporters alike. Hearty congratulations to you all and well done in keeping the Stamullen Road Club at the fore of Irish cycling.
TIDY TOWNSTERMONFECKIN.
We are pleased to see that good progress continues to be made in Termonfeckin and your work is making a very positive difference to the appearance of your small town. Well done again and we look forward to returning in 2019.
The closing remarks from the adjudicators in this year’s Supervalu Tidy Towns competition certainly are very positive. While the overall report is very comprehensive, those final remarks indicate that they certainly enjoyed their visit. So what stood out? Hanging baskets bringing a blaze of colour, great local business support, business and residential properties presented to a high standard, striking historical buildings such as both Churches, the High Cross and the Castle, very high maintenance standards of their grounds,
An Grianan, the great range of landscaping schemes in place, the upkeep around the bridge given its central focus, the Bug Hotel, involvement of
TIDY TOWNS-BALTRAY
“We enjoyed our first visit to picturesque Baltray and it was a pleasure to see the projects that have been undertaken by your enthusiastic committee and motivated volunteers. Keep up the good work and we look forward to returning next year”. Very positive and re-assuring remarks from the adjudicators and those responsible for all the Tidy Towns work in Baltray should be justifiably proud of their achievements. To summarise the comments made, community spirit and dedication was highly commended, also the input of local businesses. The diverse range of residential properties, local businesses, green areas, the grotto, the well, were all presented to a good standard. Road and townland
INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Commiserations to St. Fechin’s following the recent CTI Business Solutions Intermediate Football Championship Final. It was a very close game, even going into extra time. Unfortunately they were edged out of contention for promotion to Senior status as St Mochta’s fought back for the title on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-13. By all accounts it was an excellent game. No doubt St. Fechin’s will soldier on and hopefully make an appearance in next year’s final.

There was no winner of the Lotto. The numbers drawn were 13, 15, 16 and 23. The winner of €100 was John J Conneely. €20
