CHAMPIONS TRIBUTE NIGHT

Slane GFC will hold a Champions Tribute Night in Stackallen Tennis & Pitch & Putt Club this Saturday, October 27th, starting at 8.30pm. Admission is €25, by ticket only, and includes a three course meal and music by TP and Willo. The junior championsh­ip win of 1918, the first ever by the club, will be remembered, as well as the intermedia­te success 50 years later when Slane defeated Bohermeen in the 1968 final, and also the Junior B success in 1993.

HISTORY SOCIETY

Slane History & Archaeolog­y Society next talk is this Thursday, 25th, in the Slane Youth Cafe at 8pm when guest speaker Noel Carolan will follow on with his theme ‘Your Locality in the Newspapers, 1750-1900’ and his search for more events, characters and stories about Slane and the surroundin­g parishes. It is sure to be enjoyed by all those interested in the local history of the area. All are welcome and there is parking nearby.

BAGATELLE IN SLANE

The wonderful Bagatelle will be live at the Conyngham Arms Hotel, on Bank Holiday Sunday, October 28. It is part of their 40th anniversar­y tour and they are sure to be belting out all of their well know hits including Second Violin, Summer in Dublin and Leeson Street Lady. MARCH AWAY MY BROTHERS

‘March Away My Brothers’ is a one man show taken from the book of the same name by Brendan MacQuaile. It follows the journey of a young Lad, Lawrence Kelly from Bridgefoot Street in Dublin’s Liberties to the Christmas Truce in 1914, somewhere near the Messines Ridge in Flanders where many Irish fought and died during the course of World War 1. It will be performed by Brendan MacQualie in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland, Slane on Saturday, November 10th, at 7.30pm sharp, the eve of Armistice Day. There will also be a performanc­e of a selection of poems by WW1 poets, including Francis Ledwidge and John McCrae, read by Mayobased poets Anni Wilton-Jones and Mike Byrne. WITCHES AND WIZARDS AT THE CASTLE

Slane Castle are welcoming all witches and wizards alike into a world of magic and mystery this Halloween. Meet with our very own professors and students of the wizarding world during a tour of the castle and the great Halloween Halls. Visitors will take a tour of the castle featuring - original tale of Samhain, the Potions Room, School of Spells, the Great Slane Hall. This is a super child friendly magical education Halloween event not to be missed. Tours from October 28th to October 31st with booking details on Slane Castle website.

HALLOWEEN HUNT

The Hill of Slane annual Treasure Hunt takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, October 29th, from 2 - 4pm. Starting at Slane playground and up to the Hill of Slane (find your clues along the route). €2 per child - adults free, fancy dress optional but recommende­d. Goodie bags for kids with prize for the spookiest costume.

NIGHT OF MEDIUMSHIP AT OLD MILL

The Celts believed that Samhain was a time of transition, when the veil between our world and the next came down, and the spirits of all who had died since the last Oíche Shamhna (Night of Samhain) moved on to the next life. Two practicing Psychics and Mediums will deliver messages to members of the audience from those who are loved and missed in the spirit world at this Halloween event at the Old Mill, Slane, on Tuesday, October 30th, from 7 to 11pm.

Enjoy a fire lit Samhain feast of roast pig on a spit and mulled cider during the interval. A selection of spooky Halloween drinks and treats will be available before the event from 6pm, during the 30-minute interval, and after until 11.30pm. Suitable for 18+, the price is €35 including Samhain feast and mulled cider.

LAPATHON

The Slane GFC 24 hours Lapathon fundraiser which was postponed from a previous date has been reschedule­d for this Friday, October 26th at Toddy Harding Park, starting at 6pm. Proceeds are in aid of club developmen­t and participan­ts can, walk, jog or run. There are spot prizes for best club colours, most laps. to register contact 085 2853898. There will also be a host of other attraction­s for those taking part.

TURBO TRAINING

Slane Spinners Cycling Club have turbo training every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 8pm in Slane GAA clubhouse. Everyone welcome, bring bike, turbo trainer, water and towel. The club have a number of spare turbo trainer’s so no excuse!

CASH TRIBUTE SHOW

Ireland and UK’s number one Johnny Cash and June Carter Tribute Show perform in the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells, on Sunday, October 28th. This is a Rathkenny GFC event and doors open at 8.30pm. To book (tickets €25) call 046 9240063.

POINT-TO-POINT

Devenish will host the 2018 Point-to-Point and Country Fair at Dowth in conjunctio­n with the Meath Hunt and Tara Harriers. It takes place this Sunday October 28th and promises to be as much fun as you can have with your wellies on ... There will be six Point-to-Point races over three miles and fences on the card plus two exciting pony club

races. The first race is off at 12.30pm with gates open from 11am. As well as great racing there will be country fair exhibits, artisan food, free family fun and shopping village.

BINGO NIGHT

A Bingo Night hosted by Syddan GFC juveniles takes place on Monday, October, 29th, in Syddan GAA clubhouse, starting at 7pm. €10 per book and there are plenty of attractive cash prizes.

IRISH DANCING CLASSES

Irish Dancing Classes take place in the parochial hall Slane, every Tuesday at 4pm. There classes are suitable for children four and upwards. Contact Lolo Robinson at 087 2491185 or call to the hall any Tuesday.

24-HOUR ROLLER CYCLE

Larry Clarke and Navan Road Club will hold their annual 24Hour Roller cycle event on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th December. The cycle will take place at Foley’s Arch on Watergate Street, with proceeds going to the ARC Cancer Support Centre.

Since 1994 ARC has being offering holistic, emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer regardless of where they live. All of the services are provided by profession­al staff and trained volunteers, are confidenti­al and most importantl­y are free of charge. Club members have supported ARC over the past 15 years with their cycling activities that include Cycle Challenges to places like Cuba, South Africa and California.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of Broomfield and District Residents Associatio­n took place last Thursday night 18th October in Teach Raithneach. The attendance, to put it mildly, left a lot to be desired. This was disappoint­ing considerin­g that there are close to 200 households in the District. The first Meeting of the newly elected Committee takes place on Wednesday 24th October at 8.30 pm in Teach Raithneach. A report on proceeding­s will follow in this column next week.

The ITBS would like to thank all who attended their recent clinic in Teach Raithneach. A total of 79 Donors donated on the occasion. There were 3 former Donors and 7 first time Donors. Well done and thanks to all involved.
