CALLING ALL TESCO SHOPPERS

Tesco Extra on Matthews Lane and Tesco West Street have very kindly allowed The Tullyallen Link to be part of their Community Fund Initiative. For all Blue tokens placed in the drums located at both stores over the next few weeks, Tesco will make a donation to the funding for the Glen project. This will be used to complete landscaping and add some other finishing touches to the walkway. They have called it Tullyallen Across the Glen so the organizers would really appreciate it if all local (and not so local!) Tesco shoppers place their tokens in this drum. Remember, Every little helps. A huge Thank You to local man John Byrne for his assistance with this. It is looking like the works will soon commence by Coillte and that the project will be concluded successfully in the very near future.

TOURISM AND TIDY TOWNS.

The Monasterboice Tourism & Tidy Towns’ Committee is seeking your support. The organisation was established in 2012 and has been working diligently ever since to promote Monasterboice as a place of excellence to live, work and visit. It has been very successful to date through the combination of community spirit, the extremely hard work of it’s volunteers and local groups and the fantastic support that it have received from local businesses.

As you drive through Monasterboice, you will see the endeavours of this work at The Pope’s Cross, Mickey Billy’s Corner, Ferney Park, Ballymakenny Cross, Tenure and the litter free roads in the area. As a result, in 2017, MT and TT has received an Endeavour Award for the most improved area in the National Tidy Towns’ competition, a Special Merit Award in The Louth Looking Good competition and a Gold Medal Award in the Litter League. Since we first entered the Tidy Towns’ competition 5 years ago, we have steadily increased our score every year and in 2018, gained another 11 points. It is hoped to continue this improvement in the coming years.

Being a voluntary organisation, it relies on grants, the generosity of the community through fundraising, and sponsorship from local businesses to enable it to do it’s wonderful work. This allows us to continue maintaining, sustaining and improving Monasterboice for all our residents and businesses.

Currently, the committee is appealing to the community and local businesses for sponsorship to help it to raise funding to prepare and develop a 5-year action plan and for additional improvement works to Monasterboice, such as a Bio-Diversity/Pollinator Park which will be of enormous benefit to all of our community in the future. As part of this work, it is hoped to plant 40 fruit trees and bushes/shrubs in the Monasterboice area and each tree will have a plaque bearing the name of a sponsor of the project. If you would like to sponsor a tree, please contact atmonasterboicetourism@gmail.com or through a private message to this page.

All support would be greatly appreciated and put to great use.
