Double success

- By ALISON COMYN

THERE’S double delight for Collon piano teacher Kate McCafferty, who has had two students receive accolades from the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM).

Twins Niamh and Sinead Byrne are delighted to have been chosen to receive Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) High Achiever Awards for their impressive performance of piano duet, Allegro from Sonata for Four Hands K381 by W. A. Mozart at their Local Centre Examination held in Teach Raithneach, Starinagh, Collon earlier this year.

High Achiever Awards are given to students whose RIAM exam results are in the top 1% countrywide.

Students who meet these criteria are then invited to audition for the opportunity to perform at the RIAM High Achievers Awards Ceremony Concert.

The Senior Examiners at the RIAM were again impressed with Niamh and Sinead’s audition and have chosen them to be among the performers at the High Achievers Awards Ceremony which will be held in Co. Carlow in November.
