Jail or com­mu­nity ser­vice for no ve­hi­cle in­sur­ance

A mo­torist has been given the op­tion of 240 hours com­mu­nity ser­vice in­stead of five months im­pris­on­ment on a charge of driv­ing with­out in­sur­ance.

Evoh Chidi Peter (47), Seav­iew Grove, Laytown, was dis­qual­i­fied from driv­ing for 10 years, and his case put back to 1 March next for a re­port.

The of­fence oc­curred at Cord Road, Drogheda, on 5 Fe­bru­ary last, and the court heard the de­fen­dant has pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions.

So­lic­i­tor Der­mot Mon­a­han said his client has no car and trav­els to work as a se­cu­rity man in Dublin where he earns €300 per-week.
