Ricky’s book will be a classic story of local workforce
IN the coming weeks, Ricky Gerrard will have his new publication on the shelves and to say it’s special would be an understatement.
‘Industries and Places of Employment of old and no so old Drogheda’ is an absolute treasure of information and has taken years to put together.
And such are the array of businesses featured, the publication will be made up of three volumes in a book, at a cost of €40.
For that, you’ll get a lifetime of information on so many great firms and names, from Woolworths to Mosney, the DI, the Plug Factory, Coca- Cola, Cairnes, the railway, Bissell, Gina G, IFF, BD, Cisco, Poclain, Cement, Tapestries Ireland, the list just goes on and on. Ricky gave me a peak at some of the pages recently and this publication won’t disappoint anyone.
But like all publications with such a diverse range of content, it needs funding and that’s where the public come in.
Ricky is seeking people to sponsor pages or sections or pre-purchase copies, everything will help to get it done and dusted before Christmas.

All roads, or is it tracks, lead to the Pheasant on November 16 for the Wolfe Tones GFC race night. The club is doing great work in that part of the town and the whole entrance to it does the club volunteers justice.
Farewell to Vincent
TERMONFECKIN united in grief last week to say a farewell to Vincent McGlew.
His funeral service was one of the largest ever witnessed in the village of Termonfeckin, with people, from far and wide, coming to offer condolences to his wife Susan and the family over two days.
Vincent’s dedication to St Fechins GFC was also evident with its former chairman, John Savage, delivering a beautiful eulogy .
The great St Fechins team of the 80’s helped carry their former colleague to his final resting place in a tribute that just about sums up Termonfeckin. Family.
Dave and Ruby star
I spotted Dave Maher and the one and only Ruby performing on RTE Junior recently and it proved that the singing talents of this family are well and truly secure.
