Launch of Beko Christmas 5K

-

A CRISP, sunny morning heralded last week’s official photoshoot and launch of Drogheda & District AC’s Beko Christmas 5K - hopefully an indication that the weather Gods will be smiling on race day on December 16th!

This event is fast becoming a firm favourite as a target race for many local athletes, often the final hurrah before the Christmas excesses begin, and last year it sold out more than a week in advance.

A super-fast course awaits and from the elite runners to fun runners, and families dressed in anything and everything from festive elves to Christmas trees, this race has something for everybody. All finishers receive a technical long-sleeve running top and a gorgeous medal, always an attractive addition to any running wardrobe!

The Beko Christmas 5K, which has an 11am start time on the 16th, importantly raises funds for the new Drogheda & District AC grass running track in Newtownstalaban and will allow the club to continue to develop its grounds and provide a developmental base for athletics in the town.

The recent addition of floodlights and an all-weather trail will allow local athletes aged from six years to veteran to continue to train safely all year round.

For those who would like to try some running but don’t know where to begin, Drogheda & District AC have partnered with Louth Local Sports Partnership to host a great Couch to 5K programme at Lourdes Stadium for the next six weeks which will get you off the couch and across the finish line on the day.

This is a fantastic opportunity to improve both your mental and physical fitness as 2018 ends and more information on this programme is available via the Drogheda & District AC website and Facebook page.
