MARCH AWAY MY BROTHERS

‘March Away My Brothers’ is a one man show taken from the book of the same name by Brendan MacQuaile. It follows the journey of a young Lad, Lawrence Kelly from Bridgefoot Street in Dublin’s Liberties to the Christmas Truce in 1914, somewhere near the Messines Ridge in Flanders where many Irish fought and died during the course of World War 1.

It will be performed by Brendan MacQualie in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland, Slane on Saturday, November 10th, at 7.30pm sharp, the eve of Armistice Day. There will also be a performanc­e of a selection of poems by WW1 poets, including Francis Ledwidge and John McCrae, read by Mayobased poets Anni Wilton-Jones and Mike Byrne. TIDY TOWNS DRAW

The Slane Tidy Towns draw for October was held in the Lynch’s Bar and the winners were - €100 Rachel Murphy, €60 Collette McDonnell, €50 Bobby Tallon, €40 Larry Clarke, €30 Mary O’Brien. ART EXHIBITION

Hannah Blake of College Hill Art Studio, Slane, presents an art exhibition ‘A Day in the Life’ with opening evening on Thursday, November 15th, from 7 - 9pm. The exhibition continues until November 24th from 10am - 6pm. To view out of hours please call Eileen 087 1400220.

SOCIAL EVENING

A social evening takes place in Monknewtow­n Community Centre on Friday, November 16th, at 8.30pm. Music is by the Chapel Street Band and there will be a raffle and refreshmen­ts on the night. Admission is free and everyone is invited for what promises to be a great evening of entertainm­ent.

In particular tins of beans, peas and rice, cereal, jelly, pasta, better, biscuits and snacks, paper towels, toilet tissues, cleaning supplies, detergent, baby food, baby wipes, nappies, baby formula. ISPCC VOLUNTEER RECRUITMEN­T

The Drogheda Branch of the ISPCC is recruiting for their childline service and the next training course is due to start in January. They recruit volunteers from all over the Louth and Meath area and are eager to add to their fantastic team and are currently recruiting volunteers for Monday to Thursday. The first step in becoming a volunteer is to attend an informatio­n evening/day. This is an opportunit­y for people to come along and hear about the service, and what is involved in volunteeri­ng. They would also have a chance to hear from an already active volunteer. SPINNERS AGM

Slane Spinners Cycling Club hold their agm this Thursday, November 8th, at 8.30pm in Slane GFC clubhouse. All members and intending members are invited to attend. Club members took part in a Spinathon recently in conjunctio­n with Slane Pharmacy to raise funds for a defibrilla­tor in the village. It proved a resounding success, raising€1045. Well done to all the organisers, those who took part and all who donated.

QUIZ NIGHT

A table quiz in aid of the local St Vincent de Paul takes place this Friday evening in the Village Inn at 9pm. Table of four €40. By supporting your local SVP you are helping people within your community.

WHISKEY CHRISTMAS MARKET

Slane Distillery will be hosting a Christmas market throughout December. Their 250 years old stable courtyards will play host to a log cabin market with a variety of giftware and locally made artisan produce on offer for all to enjoy. There will also be delicious food, live music, two unique bars and tours of the world class working whiskey distillery. Entry is free and you must be 18 years or older to sample Slane Irish Whiskey or other alcoholic beverages.

24-HOUR ROLLER CYCLE

Larry Clarke and Navan Road Club will hold their annual 24Hour Roller cycle event on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th December. The cycle will take place at Foley’s Arch on Watergate Street, with proceeds going to the ARC Cancer Support Centre. Since 1994 ARC has being offering holistic, emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer regardless of where they live.

All of the services are provided by profession­al staff and trained volunteers, are confidenti­al and most importantl­y are free of charge. Club members have supported ARC over the past 15 years with their cycling activities that include Cycle Challenges to places like Cuba, South Africa and California.
