CALLING ALL TESCO SHOPPERS

Tesco Extra on Matthews Lane and Tesco West Street have very kindly allowed The Tullyallen Link to be part of their Community Fund Initiative. For all Blue tokens placed in the drums located at both stores over the next few weeks, Tesco will make a donation to the funding for the Glen project. This will be used to complete landscaping and add some other finishing touches to the walkway. They have called it Tullyallen Across the Glen so the organizers would really appreciate it if all local (and not so local!) Tesco shoppers place their tokens in this drum. Remember, Every little helps. A huge Thank You to local man John Byrne for his assistance with this. It is looking like the works will soon commence by Coillte and that the project will be concluded successfully in the very near future.

TREES FELLED.

Up to four sycamore trees were felled last week in the Stedalt/Silverstream Close area of Stamullen village.

The trees, two of which were 50-65 years old and almost fortytall had once formed part of an old hedgerow marking the boundary of fields between the houses of Silverstream Close which were constructed during the 1970`s and the large fields on the Kilbrickstown road that now forms part of the residential housing estate of Kilbreck and Glasheen. High winds and extraordinary storms in recent years gave rise to some caution regarding the sycamore trees as they were towering over and adjacent to some of these new homes.

BINGO.

A reminder to all regarding the Stamullen Parish Fund Raising Committee that their annual Christmas Bingo in the City North Hotel will take place on Wednesday evening December 5th.

KNOW YOUR PARISH.

During the second week of May, back in 1934, a very lively game of Gaelic Football was played on the hill of Bellewstown, between the men from the `hill` and a team from Gormanston. The following is an extract account of that game which was reported on within the pages of the Drogheda Independent.

`With the wind advantage, Bellewstown led the attack and after a fine bout of combinations, Plunkett hit the net. Play resumed and Courtney, following a melee in the Bellewstown square, made a spectacular clearance from which Collier and Flood got going and following a neat pass into the square Boyle fisted in another goal for Bellewstown. Whearty followed this up with a point, but Gormanston returned, Murray passing the ball that ended with scores from Whelan, McKenna; both of whom sent points over the bar. Gormanston then looked dangerous when the ball yet again entered close into the Bellewstown half, but again, Courtney came into the picture to clear once more from which Bellewstown got a point by Reilly. During the second hald Gormanston played some attacking football but sent a number of wides over the end line, while Bellewstown were also awarded two fifties and both were also sent wide.Bell also played well for Gormanston. Following, what is known as a `scrap`, a player from each side was sent to the line and no further incidents took place for the remainder of the match which ended, Bellewstown 2-2 Gormanston 0-2.

Monasterboice’s Tourism and Tidy Town’s will hold it’s AGM in The Monasterboice Inn on Tuesday, 13th November at 8pm. For this reason, we are all being reminded that all are welcome to attend this AGM.
