‘Peopleshould parkingarages’on theNorthStrand

- By ALISON COMYN

THE row over lack of parking spaces for residents on the North Strand deepened this week, with one councillor pointing out that ‘ these people have garages’, and therefore don’t need their own on-street parking.

The number of public parking spaces on the North Strand was recently reduced from 32 to nine, with the council saying it was done to improve safety in the area, as large trucks were having difficulty passing parked cars.

Cllr Kenneth Flood has been raising the issues for several months, and had slammed the decision, saying they “care more about trucks than residents”.

He was speaking after their refusal to reintroduce parking spaces or to provide alternative parking arrangements on The North Strand.

However, Cllr Oliver Tully welcomed the safety measures and said there was ample parking there.
