Soccer star is new Meath keeper coach

-

DUNDALK’S League and FAI Cup double winner Gary Rogers was ratified as Meath senior goalkeeping coach for 2019 at the November meeting of the Meath County Committee.

Rogers, who also played in goal previously for Drogheda United, is a native of Bohermeen and previously represented the county at junior and senior level.

Former Louth and Newtown Blues player Colm Nally was ratified as senior football coach, while both Gerry McEntee and Cormac Sullivan (St Patrick’s) have stepped down as selectors from the county set-up.

Barry Callaghan (Dunderry) is the new Under-20 manager and two of his former All-Ireland-winning teammates - Darren Fay and Paddy Reynolds - will act as selectors. Callaghan, who previous served as Under-21 boss, succeeds Nobber’s Brian Farrell.

The external review with regard to the senior management and team has been completed. There was a good response to it from the manager and he has agreed to implement some of the suggestions. Only 25 of the 36 players who were asked responded to the questionnaire.

Paul Reilly (Dunboyne) will continue as a Meath senior hurling selector for 2019 and he will be joined by Conor Ferguson (Gaeil Colmcille) alongside manager Nick Fitzgerald.

Michael Bennett (O’Mahony’s) was ratified at Children’s Officer for 2019, while Jason Plunkett (Clonard) was also ratified as Development Officer. This is the first year that the development officer has been selected rather than elected at convention.

A number of clubs entered a raffle for tables at the Race Day fundraiser in Fairyhouse on December 2nd and Carnaross, St Vincent’s, Kilmainhamwood, O’Mahony’s, Rathkenny and Wolfe Tones were the winners.
