Death of Lil Murray

-

September 1968

ANOTHER link with the Dunleer of other days has gone, in the death which took place at the Cottage Hospital, Drogheda, of Miss L. B. ( Lil ) Murray, at the fine old age of 95.

For more than half a century, she was a familiar figure in Dunleer and district as rent collection agent for the Bellew family of Barmeath Castle.

A lady of much natural charm and ability, she was charitable to a fault, and many are the stories about her sympathetic understanding of genuine hardship in the less prosperous Dunleer of former times.

She was a Golden Jubilarian of the Pioneer T.A. Society, and a fine pianist. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Murray, resided for several years at Barn Road, Dunleer. The remains were removed from the hospital to Dysart Church, and the funeral took place the following day to Dysart cemetery after 11 o’clock Mass. Rev. Fr. D. Campbell, and Rev. P Kennedy (both Togher, attended the obsequies.
