Politicians plea for more gardai
LOCAL politicians are standing in unison in condemning the recent gangland violence. Cllr Richie Culhane says he has lived in the town for almost 39 years and served as a member of the force and can authoritatively say he has never experienced this levels of anti-social behaviour and worries if it is allowed to continue on the trajectory its going, our town will become a social wasteland.
‘I keep in contact daily with members of An Garda Siochana and I can respectfully suggest that under the circumstances they are providing a wonderful service however moral is at an all-time low,’ he told the Drogheda Independent.
With the escalation of gang turf wars, attempted murders, stabbings and pipe bombings in areas of the town I am imploring the gardai to evaluate the current situation in Drogheda before it gets out of control.
Local TD Fergus o’Dowd said Moneymore is one of the finest estates with which he has ever worked.
‘It is a community of people and families who work together and are distressed about what has been happening,’ he said. ‘A small number of people are engaged in this activity. They are evil and policing in Drogheda and must be urgently addressed.
