Moore, Byrne and Cooney get FF nod
THE Fianna Fáil Louth / Coastal Meath AGM was held in the Grove Hotel Dunleer on November 12. There was a massive turnout for the meeting particularily from the southern part of the constituency. TD Declan Breathnach welcomed the crowd and thanked retiring councillor Tommy Byrne for all his years of service.
The main business of the evening was to elect a new officer board for the constituency. Elected officers were as follows:Cathaoirleach – Tomás Ó hEochaidh , Leaschathaoirleach – Garret O’Brien . Rúnaí – Venetia Taylor, Assistant Rúnaí – Val Rogers, Cisteoirí – Christopher Faulkner and Peter McKevitt, PRO – John Kierans, Ógra Officer – Ann Clarke.
The Comhairle Dáil Cheantair unanimously passed a motion of sympathy to the relatives of Paddy Clarke on his death. Paddy’s unique contribution to the art of coaching and organising has left a profound legacy well into the future.
On the night, a party representative from Mount Street announced that South Louth East Meath PRO Anthony Moore and James Byrne, a son of Tommy’s, had been nominated to run in Drogheda Urban, with Richard Cooney nominated in Drogheda Rural.
South Louth East Meath PRO Anthony Moore said: “There was a great mood of unity at last week’s AGM from members across the constituency. We all want to increase our council seats in next year’s elections and win a second seat for the party here. South Louth and East Meath is up for the fight in that regard.
‘Our organisation has been totally reinvigorated over the past two years with an influx of new members and we are now ready to mount a strong grassroots-led campaign for our party’s candidates here. We are looking forward to the campaign and to showing the people of Drogheda, South Louth and East Meath that we have the solutions to the many serious problems affecting our part of the constituency”.
