Ted the greyhound loves nothing better than weekabix and some warm milk!
THE work of a prominent Drogheda greyhound re-homer has been recognised in a new campaign highlighting the work of the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust.
‘Our People, Their Stories’ is reminding people that greyhounds make fantastic pets who transition from the track to the couch with ease.
Greyhound re-homer Brenda Powderly, based in Drogheda, was filmed with her own retired greyhound Ted for the campaign.
Greyhounds are in Brenda’s blood, as her uncle and her mother have been involved with them since the mid 1930s. Her family used to breed, sell and race greyhounds, having great success at the old track in Navan, in Dundalk and in Harold’s Cross.
Through her connections in greyhound racing and her love of dogs, Brenda became a trustee of the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust a number of years ago.
Brenda said: “Ted has been with me since he was three months old. During his racing career, he won a number of races in Harold’s Cross and Shelbourne Park. For the last year and a half, he has been meeting and greeting spectators in Shelbourne – a job he is absolutely made for! Ted has a breakfast we can all be jealous of – after his 45 minute walk, he has Weetabix soaked with warm milk and a spoonful of yoghurt! He then spends 90% of his time sleeping on the couch before his dinner. He’s a wonderful pet and it’s great to be a part of the ‘Our People, Their Stories’ campaign.”
