Square title bid dashed by

SQUARE UNITED ENFIELD CELTIC 2 2

SQUARE United have ended their Division 1 campaign unbeaten and with promotion assured, but they must sit and wait to see if Parkvilla snatch the league title from under their noses.

A win for Square in their final fixture against bottom club Enfield on Sunday would have put the Ardee men in the driving seat to finish on top, but they had to come from 2-0 down to snatch a point.

A draw for Parkvilla in their last game - which is ironically against Enfield - will now be enough to see them move to the summit and win the title at Square’s expense.

The Ardee men certainly bossed Sunday’s game in the possession stakes but they struggled to break through a resolute Enfield defence who were well marshalled by their number five.

Nevertheless, the concession of two goals against the run of play came as a real shock to the hosts and they only got back on level terms courtesy of long-range strikes from Martin Duffy and Robbie Leavy.

In the end they could actually have snatched victory, but the match ended in stalemate and Square - title or not - can now enjoy the off season and look forward to rejoining their neighbours Ardee Celtic in the top flight for the NEFL’s first full
