Our Lady’s at the double against Ballyfermot sides

-

IT’S been a good week for the Our Lady’s College Greenhills basketball teams, both of whom enjoyed victories at home to St Dominics of Ballyfermot last Tuesday.

The most significant was that of the Under-16 Cadette C team whose win ensured they qualified for the SSA quarter-finals. Needing a win from this, their final league match to be sure of a good qualification spot, they had many opportunities early on but failed to gain any advantage from their possession and indeed Ballyfermot were first to score.

Olamide Adegoke finally got the Boynesiders going, and with Sharon Popoola also getting on the scoresheet the hosts led 3–1 at the first break and 7–5 at half-time.

Quarter three was the home team’s bestas Rebecca McGrane continued where she left off in the second quarter, with another basket, while Adegoke also bagged two more.

Aoibheann NiFhearaigh, Gemma O’Toole and Aoife Steenson were stalwarts in defence in this quarter as they kept the visitors scoreless, and although Ballyfermot had the edge in the fourth quarter Our Lady’s hung on for a 17–11 victory which should see them qualify in second position and therefore earn a home draw in the quarter-finals.

The respective Under-19 Senior B teams then came onto the court in what turned out to be something of a mis-match.

Ballyfermot had only six players and it transpired that this was their first-ever basketball match, and the outcome was never in doubt as Our Lady’s completed a facile 47-8 win, with Shona Bradley, Catherine Grey, Chantelle Gallagher and top scorer Rachael Beirth to the fore. UNDER-16 CADETTE C:
