Busy weekend for Ardee and District members

- Ardee & District AC’s 10k athletes at The Gingerbrea­d Run.

A BUSY weekend for Ardee & District AC began on Friday night at Athletics Louth’s Star Awards, with plenty of nomination­s, certificat­es and athlete of the year for the mid Louth club.

James Maguire won the Under-14 Louth Athlete of the Year award and there were nomination­s also for Abbie Sheridan, Aoibheann Carolan, Samantha McCarron, Orlaith Carolan, Kya Mothiram, Jack McCarron, Tom Maguire, Ashyn Mothiram, Caoimhe Carolan, Courtney Commins and Oran Lynch.

The club’s seniors were busy too and early on Saturday morning 10 of them headed to Annagassan to battle it out at this year’s Annagassan Viking Coastal 10k. All 10 returned triumphant with some personal bests from a super course, boosted by a fantastic atmosphere in a superbly run event.

Nathan Anderson led home the Ardee contingent in seventh place, followed by Michael Lundon, Kevin Carroll, Ben Corcoran, David Tyhuis, Brian Duff, AnneMarie Dillon, Derek Gillespie, Roisin Whyte and Sarah Nic Lochlainn.

Later in the day, this time flying the Ardee flag stateside, the club’s seasoned veteran Leo Farrell finished an impressive 10th at the Janney 5K in Washington DC.

The weekend ended with another 10 Ardee athletes heading early on Sunday morning to The Gingerbrea­d Run in Portarling­ton. The club’s 10k runners Peter Carolan, Michelle Lynch, Joanne Dillon, Alison Duffy and Teresa Durnin were followed home by the half-marathon brigade in the shape of Ronan O’Sullivan, Bernie Balfe, Liam Smith, Dave Symmons and Domhnall Lennon, with more personal bests along the way.
