TOP ESTATES HONOURED AT LOUTH LOOKING GOOD NIGHT

-

IT was standing room only in the Crowne Plaza Hotel for the announcement of the results of Louth Looking Good 2018 with the venue packed to capacity, with the largest crowd ever in attendance, to see volunteers from tidy towns groups and residents associations throughout the county honoured for their sterling work.

The attendance was treated to a viewing of a wonderful video produced by Ken Finnegan Newspics which highlighted how well the county looked and demonstrated beyond doubt that Louth is Looking Good.

In his address Councillor Liam Reilly, Chairman Louth County Council, and himself a tidy towns volunteer, stressed that ‘Louth is not just looking good but is looking great as a result of the combined efforts of volunteers throughout the county and Louth County Council’.

Councillor Reilly went on to thank the hundreds of volunteers who give freely of their time on an ongoing basis to ensure their local communities look their very best.

Frank O’Brien, Chairman Louth LEADER Partnership, in his address, noted that the partnership approach to delivering the campaign is being highlighted in Europe as an example of best practice in the delivery of the Rural Development Programme.

Thanks was also expressed to the many sponsors including Lead Sponsor Indaver Ireland and category sponsors McCabes Plant Hire, Greenore Port, Fyffes, Maxol Dublin Road, Matthews Coach Hire, V & W Recycling, Rehab Glassco and C. J. Callan Construction, without whose support the campaign simply wouldn’t be possible.

The big prize- winner on the night was Blackrock winning the Overall Award, Best Presented Graveyard and Runner Up in the Waste Minimisation Special Award!

The team from Dromiskin Tidy Towns were overjoyed to be awarded Runner-Up for the first time, as well as winning the Waste Minimisation Special Award and the Youth Award while Ardee, having received its first Gold Medal in the National Tidy Towns Competition, came third overall.

It really was a special night for Carlingford who won the Adjudicators Award, the Age Friendly Award and were runners up in the Waste Minimisation Special Award but one of the biggest cheers of the night was reserved for long standing volunteer Gerry McGarrity who was honoured with the Environmentalist of the Year Award! Monasterboice was the deserving winner of the Most Improved Award while St. Oliver’s Park in Carlingford was judged to be the Best Overall Housing Estate in County Louth.
