Bridie sheds a tear for all those who fell in World War I

Ghost of War

-

Walking through the pages of the First World War

I stand aghast in horror at such barbaric acts

We are now at last aware of the great sacrifice of precious lives

Slaughtered, shot, blown to bits

The poppy screams you hear it clear

The poppy now bursts into song

I am the mother of all whom have died

Those poor young men struck down

Oh how I have cried

With their blood drowning my petals

Across my breaking heart We who clung together will never prise apart

I am the emblem of war so respected and adored

I am the most virtuous beautiful flower of love

Both North and South are here today

A friendship deep and true As both of us have felt the pain of loss

November must feel angst at times

‘Haunted by the yearly event’ Which will never fade or disappear

As we stand in remembrance Most of us will shed a tear

And I say ‘Never take life for granted

‘Live it well and true ‘And remember to remember ‘Until the day you die’.
