Owen Fox put Grove on way

-

Grove had an easy win over a Crescent team (7-1) who were without a lot of their regular players. These two points now mean that Grove move to within a point of leaders Newtown, thanks to their postponed match against Threeway.

Grove went ahead after only five minutes when Owen Fox’s shot was handled on the line and the same player scored the resultant penalty. In the 15 minute Nigel Rafferty burst throuth the Crescent defence and shot home. By half-time Grove were 4-0 up, Owen Fox getting his second from a Viv Flanagan cross, and Rafferty also hammering home his second.

At the start of the second half the young Crescent side came more into the game, but had to wait until Flanagan slid home Grove’s fifth goal before McMullen scored for them with a bullet-like free.

Grove brought on substitutes John O’Rourke and Adrian McDermott and it was the latter who scored their sixth goal. Noel Synott completed Grove’s scoreline ten minutes from the end.

Best for Grove were Declan Woods, Paul Kirwan, Jim Shelbourne, Nigel Rafferty and Noel Synott. McMullen and Owens tried hard for Crescent.
